Teaching Strategies: TPR
There are various teaching strategies ideal for teaching young learners to facilitate fun and effective classes. Some strategies are appropriate for very young learners aged 3 to 6, while others are more suitable for learners aged 7 to 10 years old. Our teachers ensure they use different but age-appropriate strategies to optimize English learning. Examples of these strategies include using songs and chants, storytelling and picture books, games and interactive activities, visual aids, role play, question-and-answer routines, scaffolding and modeling language, repetition, and the Total Physical Response (TPR).
Among the different teaching strategies for young learners, the most common and effective is the Total Physical Response (TPR). TPR is a language teaching method that uses physical movement to help learners associate words and actions. TPR works for the following reasons:
- It engages multiple senses for better retention of lessons.
- It reduces learner stress by combining movement with language
- It is ideal for young learners who benefit from active and hands-on activities.

VIP Junior Course uses carefully selected published materials in the classroom to ensure that the lessons, pictures, and audio files are safe and child-friendly. The lesson topics will be shared during the class, but parents are encouraged to purchase the hardcopy or e-book from the publisher so that students can preview and review the materials at home.
